Software Settings
Telegram
The repository version of Telegram has a few issues, like always starting in search mode.
I therefore suggest you download Telegram directly from telegram.org/dl/desktop/linux.
Just throw it into /opt/telegram/
or similar, then launch it to have it auto create your .desktop file.
Anyways, here are the settings I use in Telegram:
- Theme is t.me/addtheme/hezkore
(blends perfectly with the Dracula GTK theme!) - Interface scale 125% on 1080p monitors, 135% on 1440p monitors
- Right click "Archived chats" in the contact list and "Move to main menu"
- Resize Telegram to its minimum size, then drag drag down until 8 contacts are visible
- Settings → Chat Settings
- Font family → "System font"
- Disable "Replace emojis automatically"
- Settings → Notifications and Sounds
- Disable "Desktop notifications"
- Disable "Draw attention to the window" (really?)
- Disable "Allow sounds"
- Scroll down and disable "Include muted chats in unread count"
- Settings → Advanced
- "Automatic media download" → "In private chats", "In groups" and "In channels", disable "Autoplay → Videos"
- Enable "Show tray icon"
- Enable "Launch Telegram when system starts"
- Enable "Launch minimized"
- Enable "Hardware accelerate video decoding"
- Manage dictionaries → Enable "Swedish" (and English if it's not enabled)
(wait for the download to finish before closing!) - Experimental settings → Enable "Show tabbed panel by click"
- If desktop theme = "Dracula" & desktop not = "GNOME", Enable "Use system window frame"
(looks fine in GNOME, but places the window incorrectly when minimizing and then restoring the window)
